Dear parentJust to inform you I will be providing you with an individual report on your child at the end of the academic year 2006/7.As you know, the nursery group is new, but I'd like to keep you informed, as I do with the infants' group, of the sort of work your child is doing during club.Only 3 children are new to French in that they haven't received formal French tuition. However, through their siblings some have been able to pick up a few basic words. The rest of the group has either learnt French through me at nursery or elsewhere so individual levels vary.My approach to this group, therefore, given the fact some are essentially real beginners - is to start from the basics allowing those who are more familiar with the language to offer answers thus using the early sessions as a revision process for them and this has worked well.In the main, the children are confident in:-* Saying their name in French* Asking someone's name (sometimes with prompting of the first word)* Counting to 10* Colours - most know the main colours (bleu, blanc, rouge, vert, jaune, rose, orange, marron and noir) well - some very well* Recognising the question: Comment ça va? & replying with one of 3 phrases: Ça va bien, ça va mal & comme ci comme çaThey've learnt quite a few songs from the cd during this term and have started to follow the words in their songbooks (this is why the children need to bring their folders and songbooks each week). Songs learnt are:- Frère Jacques, Le Pont d'Avignon (learnt the words for girl and boy), La Tour Eiffel, Toc Toc Toc Monsieur Pouce (learnt I'm sleeping - je dors, I'm drinking - je bois, I'm eating - je mange, I'm coming out - je sors)Being the autumn term, the children were also introduced to some French words relating to Christmas, eg. Joyeux Noël, Bonne Année for Merry Christmas & Happy New Year and they were helped to wirte some cards in French to a person of their choice.DECEMBER 2006
